Get The Party Started (2001): Pink’s breakout single is still a sassy pop anthem that will get you on the dance floor

One of the more influential pop artists of the early 2000s, I’ve always had a fondness for Pink (her real name is Alecia Moore.) The brash, feisty Pink has one of the more unique sounds in the pop landscape, mixing confessional lyrics that were both vulgar and feminist with some of the best pop hooks since Madonna. She carried herself with a confidence and swagger that set her apart from the other pop divas of the era, like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera (the “dirty” singer would start a bitter rivalry with our beloved Alecia.)

“Get the Party Started” was the first single and video from her second album, “Missundaztood,” which saw Pink lean into a more pop/rock direction. Teaming up with acclaimed producer/writer Linda Perry from the alternative band “4 Non-Blondes,” Pink was able to craft an album that was part confessional mixed with sassy pop anthems. The album was a breakout hit for the candy-haired songstress with three chart-topping singles, “Don’t Let Me Get Me,” “Just Like a Pill,” and the aforementioned “Party.”

The video for “Get The Party Started” was directed by Dave Meyers with Pink in all her feisty glory. The stylized piece shows Pink preparing for a night on the town, then arriving to “party” the night away (Linda Perry cameos as a bartender.) Pink was always confident in front of the camera, and she would later flirt with acting in some minor film roles.

Pink would continue her chart-topping success and music videos for the next few decades. See below and watch when the party truly started:
